Madison, Wisc. - The third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team was upset at the Wisconsin Tournament on Sunday, as the Bruins suffered a 1-0 loss to Northwestern at the University of Wisconsin's McClimon Soccer Complex. With the loss, UCLA falls to 2-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 3-0.
The game's only goal was scored in the 54th minute by Northwestern's Kate Allen. The assist was credited to Julie Sierks.
Although the Bruins were out-shot 7-6 on the day, UCLA had a number of scoring chances, even owning a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Zakiya Bywaters led the Bruins with three of the team's six shots.
It marks UCLA's first loss to an unranked team since falling to Oregon in double-overtime (2-1) on Nov. 3, 2006.
The Bruins return home next week, facing Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. That match will be at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
