Pasadena, Calif. - The third-ranked UCLA men's water polo used goals from 10 Bruins to overpower the UCLA Alumni Team, 13-8, at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins overcame a 2-0 first-quarter deficit and used a 13-6 run to take control of the exhibition contest under sunny skies in Pasadena.
The Alumni Team registered goals from Greg Arth 11 seconds into the game and from assistant coach Matt Flesher at 5:56 in the first quarter to grab a 2-0 lead. The current Bruins cruised to a 5-2 advantage early in the second quarter after five different players tallied one goal each.
The Bruins jumped to a 6-3 advantage at the half, and sophomore goalkeeper Matt Kellogg recorded four saves in the cage. In the third quarter, the Alumni Team cut the Bruins' lead to two (8-6) thanks to goals from Flesher, Sean Kern and Sam Bailey.
