WOODLAND, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Scott Davidson captured Mikasa MPSF Men's Water Polo Player of the Week accolades for the week of Sept. 17-23 after scoring a career-high five goals in UCLA's 12-11 overtime victory against UC Irvine last Saturday.
Davidson helped UCLA rally from several deficits - most importantly, when the Bruins tailed 9-7 with less than three minutes remaining in the contest. The Seal Beach, Calif., resident's fifth goal of the afternoon cut the Anteaters' margin to 9-8 with 2:21 to play. Each of Davidson's first three goals tied the contest (at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3, respectively).
Davidson' five-goal effort on Saturday marked the first such performance by a Bruin since Logan Powell netted five goals against Pepperdine on Nov. 11, 2006. Davidson, who competed for the U.S. Junior National Team over the summer, has scored a team-high 15 goals this season and has recorded 37 goals in 32 career games.
The third-ranked UCLA men's water polo team opens MPSF play at Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 30. Game time is 4:30 p.m. at Avery Aquatics Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
