BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 11 UCLA baseball team scored five runs in the second inning and held on to defeat California, 7-2, in the opening contest of a three-game Pac-12 series at Evans Diamond on Friday afternoon.

Trevor Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs, leading the Bruins (37-13, 16-9 Pac-12) to their ninth win in their last 10 contests and extending the team's winning streak to six games.

UCLA scored five runs in the second inning and two runs in the third to lead, 7-0, against California (26-23, 9-16).

Right-hander Adam Plutko (8-3) earned his third win in his last three starts, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings. Plutko scattered six hits, walked four batters and recorded three strikeouts.

Shane Zeile went 2-for-5 with two runs, and Kevin Williams went 2-for-4 with one run. Cody Regis led the Bruins with two RBI, going 1-for-3 with a two-run triple and one run.

California's Matt Flemer (7-5) absorbed the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) and 11 hits in seven innings. Danny Oh (2-for-3), Andrew Knapp (2-for-5) and Chadd Krist (2-for-4) each had two hits for the Golden Bears.

Regis' two-RBI triple on a fly ball to the center field fence put UCLA ahead of California, 2-0, with nobody out in the top of the second inning. With the infield drawn in, Kevin Kramer bounced a single into left field, scoring Regis. Kramer advanced to third base on Williams' ensuing single to left field and scored on Beau Amaral's base-hit to center. UCLA scored its fifth run on a run-scoring groundout by Cody Keefer.

The Bruins scored twice in the third inning after Brown opened the frame with a leadoff base-hit. Zeile followed with a bunt single that sent Brown to second base. After a double steal, Brown raced home on a wild pitch and Zeile advanced to third base. Chris Keck's sacrifice fly to center field scored Zeile.

The Golden Bears scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to reduce UCLA's cushion to 7-2.
