Sophomore outfielder Samantha Camuso (Redding, CA/Foothill HS) of the UCLA softball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 17-23.
Camuso had four hits in eight at-bats during the NCAA Regional round last weekend, recording three home runs, seven runs batted in, four runs scored and two walks as the Bruins advanced to Super Regionals. She reached in all four plate appearances, had four RBI and scored twice in the Regional opener against Saint Mary's on Friday. After walking in her first at-bat, she doubled in a run in the fourth inning to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. Camuso was hit in the fifth inning and then hit a three-run homer in the sixth to extend UCLA's advantage to 11-4. On Saturday against San Diego State, Camuso gave the Bruins an insurance run in the sixth inning with her second homer of the weekend to give UCLA a 3-1 lead. The Bruins went on to win the game 4-3. On Sunday, Camuso reached base twice, hitting a two-run homer in the second inning which tied the game at two. She also walked in the sixth.
This is Camuso's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
