WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA guard Lazeric Jones has been named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 27-March 4, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
The senior guided the Bruins to a home sweep of the Washington schools last week, starting with a commanding 78-46 win over the Cougars on Thursday. Jones scored a team-high 18 points (8-for-10 field goal shooting, 2-for-2 3-point shooting) and added five assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Against Washington on Saturday, the Chicago, Ill., native dropped 20 points and amassed five rebounds, four assists and one steal in the 75-69 upset over the Huskies. Jones made go-ahead baskets at 8:48 and 2:10, and then sealed the Senior Night victory by making the front end of a one-and-one and the second free throw with three ticks left on the clock.
Over the two games, Jones averaged 19.0 points on 15-of-25 (.600) field goal shooting, 5-of-9 (.556) three-point shooting and was perfect from the foul line (3-for-3). He also averaged 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
This is Jones' first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the 54th all-time selection for UCLA.
UCLA faces cross-town rival USC in the first round of the 2012 Pacific Life Pac-12 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. PT on FSN.
