LOS ANGELES - Senior Ben Hohl scored a team-leading four goals - all in the first half - to pace the No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team past No. 10 Loyola Marymount, 14-6, under the lights at Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday evening.

UCLA (5-1) raced to a 5-0 lead near the end of the first quarter and never looked back against the visiting Lions (6-5). The Bruins also received three goals from sophomore Josh Samuels and two from senior Emilio Vieira and freshman Cristiano Mirarchi. Junior Brett Hays, sophomore Griffin White and freshman Scott Snyder each tallied one goal for UCLA.

Loyola Marymount was led by Edgaras Asajavicius' game-high five goals. Asajavicius scored LMU's first three goals before Aki Ikaika found the back of the cage in the third quarter.

UCLA's offensive attack in the opening frame included goals from Mirarchi (5:41) and White (5:20) within a 21-second span. Hohl registered his first of four goals with 3:52 to play in the first period. The Bruins' lead increased to five after Hohl converted on a 6-on-5 situation (2:04) and Samuels scored with 1:44 to play.

LMU got on the board with Asajavicius' first of five goals with 1:09 remaining in the opening period.

The Bruins outscored LMU in each of the following three quarters - by a 3-2 count in the second, 5-3 in the third and 1-0 in the fourth. From the second quarter on, UCLA's advantage never fell to fewer than four goals.

Loyola Marymount shored its deficit to four goals twice - with 3:57 to play (6-2) in the second quarter on Asajavicius' second goal and at the 6:22 mark in the third quarter (9-5) on a 6-on-5 score from Asajavicius.

Leading 8-3 at halftime, UCLA forged ahead with five third-quarter goals, pushing its margin to 13-6 by the end of the third quarter. Among the highlights from Saturday's contest was a perfectly-executed lob shot by Vieira that sent UCLA ahead, 11-5 with 2:58 to play in the third frame.

Snyder scored his first collegiate goal with 86 seconds remaining, handing UCLA a 14-6 cushion.

UCLA junior goalkeeper Andrew Mesesan made six saves, including on each of LMU's first three shots. LMU senior goalkeeper Andy Stevens finished with six saves, half of those in the final quarter.

UCLA returns to action at the SoCal Tournament at Spieker Aquatics Center next weekend. The Bruins open their tournament schedule against No. 17 Princeton on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of the Pacific-Loyola Marymount contest later that day.
