No. 2 UCLA Downs Crosstown Rival USC, 2-1

Los Angeles - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team came back from a one-goal deficit to defeat local rival USC, 2-1 Sunday in a Pac-10 Conference matchup at UCLA's Drake Stadium. With the victory, UCLA improves to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in Pac-10 play. USC falls to 7-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

USC scored the first goal of the match a little over five minutes in when forward Brittany Savelkoul beat UCLA goalkeeper CiCi Peterson on a breakaway to give the Women of Troy a 1-0 lead.

UCLA answered eight minutes later when Bruin forward Staci Duncan lobbed a loose ball over USC goalkeeper Shaelyn Fernandes to tie the score at one apiece.

Following a 1-1 tie at the half, Bruin forward Mary-Frances Monroe scored the game-winning goal at the 62:16 mark on an akward shot from the top of the USC box.

With the victory, UCLA improves to 9-2-1 all-time against the Women of Troy. This was also the second-straight victory for UCLA over its crosstown rival as the Bruins defeated USC, 3-0 in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament.

UCLA will hit the road this week for a pair of matches against the Oregon schools. On Friday, the Bruins will take on Oregon in Eugene at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, UCLA will head to Corvallis for a match with Oregon State beginning at 2:00 p.m.
