Seventh-ranked UCLA returns to Pauley Pavilion this week to host a pair of MPSF matches against 10th ranked Cal State Northridge (Feb. 21) and third-ranked UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 23). First serve for both matches is set for 7 p.m.
Both matches will be broadcast live (audio) on www.uclabruins.com with Darren Preston calling the action. KCSB, UC Santa Barbara's campus radio station, will originate a broadcast on Friday night.
The Bruins (8-7, 6-6) defeated CS Northridge (8-7, 6-4) in five games on Jan. 19, The Bruins and Gauchos (12-3, 10-2) have split a pair of matches this season.
In the league race, CS Northridge sits in fifth place after victories last week against UC San Diego (3-0) and Long Beach State (3-2). The Matadors have won three straight and five of their last six conference matches since starting 1-3 in league play. The Bruins lead this series, 53-7.
UC Santa Barbara, since falling 3-0 to the Bruins on Jan. 5, has won 11 of its last 13, including four straight. The Gauchos lead the league in hitting percentage (.372), kills (16.51 kpg), aces (2.0) and assists (15.6). Senior opposite Evan Patak is the national leader in aces (1.1 apg) and ranks fourth in kills (5.0 kpg). He also leads the league in points (7.71 ppg), kills (6.09 kpg) and aces (1.18 apg).
Last weekend UCLA split a pair of matches against Pacific (Feb. 16) and Stanford (Feb. 17). The Bruins lost 0-3 to the Tigers and won 3-1 against the Cardinal. Friday's loss was their first ever to UOP in the 26-match series. The Bruins victory against Stanford was their 58th in the series.
In the Stanford match, Klosterman (19) and George (11) each hit better than .300 as the Bruins out-blocked Stanford, 17.0-5.0 and out-served them nine aces to three.
