After the first day of competition at the Pac-10 swimming and diving championships, the Bruins have completed competition in the 500 Free, 200 IM and one-meter diving. Swimming events are being held at Belmont PLaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, CA. Diving is taking place at Tucson, AZ at the University of Arizona.
In the 500 Free preliminaries, UCLA competitors were Jackie Lobdell (4:50.49), Melissa Miller (4:55.99), Katie Younglove (4:59.25), Lindsay Wolf (5:00.34), Krissy Tinney (5:01.82) and Beth Boehm (5:02.60). Freshman Tamara Bal swam an uonofficial time of 5:05.21. Miller advanced to the bonus final and Lobdell advanced to the consolation final.
In the 200 IM prelims, Bruin competitors were Malin Svahnstrom (2:01.82), Brooke Winkler (2:03.58), Cathy Coler (2:03.98), Jen Noddle (2:04.25), Katie Winkelhaus (2:04.45), Leslie Hovsepian (2:05.10), Stacy Kearney (2:05.16), Kim Scarborough (2:05.76) and Kristen Lews (2:08.47). Chelsea Murray swam an unofficial 2:08.75 and Taylor Dahl swam an unofficial 2:09.64. Svahnstrom's 2:01.82 ranked fourth in the prelims and advances her to the championship final. Noddle, Coler and Winkler will compete in the consolation final. Kearney, Winkelhaus and Hovsepian will compete in teh bonus final.
In the one-meter diving, Regan Gosnell placed eighth with 232.30 points. In prelims, Gosnell was seventh (249.40), Michelle Brown was 13th (222.45), Kasey Reinhard was 17th (210.95), Jen McNally was 18th (206.75), Heidi Prosser was 20th (202.60), Janine Strack was 21st (195.55) and Liz Ackerman was 25th (168.45).
