Ann Arbor, Mich. - The UCLA team of Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda won their quarterfinal doubles match Friday to advance to Saturday's semifinals at the 2004 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors Championships at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.
Bercek and Zalameda, unseeded in the 16-team draw, defeated hometown favorites Michelle DaCosta/Kara Delicata of Michigan, 8-6. Next up for the UCLA tandem is a Saturday showdown with Northwestern's Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier.
In singles action Friday, Zalameda was defeated in the round of 16 by Washington's Dea Sumantri. After losing the first set, Sumantri came back to win 4-6, 7-6(0), 7-5.
On the men's side, UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel defeated Washington's Alex Slovic, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in the round of 16. He then fell to second-seeded Sam Warburg of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals later in the afternoon.
