The UCLA Bruin Soccer coaches offer a wide variety of camps for kids of all ages to participate. The summer camps are run and coached by the very accomplished UCLA Men's and Women's Soccer coaching staffs.
On the men's side, Head Coach Jorge Salcedo has deep ties to Bruin soccer tradition, helping guide UCLA to a national championship as a player in 1990. After playing professionally in Mexico's First Division and Major League Soccer, he has come back to help guide the Bruins to greatness, winning three Pac-10 titles and guiding the Bruins to the NCAA Tournament each of the last seven years. Assistant Coaches Eddie Soto and Kenny Arena are both former NCAA All-Americans at Cal State Fullerton and Virginia, respectively, and have both played in the MLS.
On the women's side, Head Coach Jillian Ellis has truly established UCLA Women's Soccer as a perennial national power, taking the Bruins to six straight College Cup appearances. Associate Coach B.J. Snow joined the Bruins after a very successful college career, including back-to-back NCAA titles with the University of Indiana.
The coaching staffs will be assisted by camp counselors who are members of the UCLA Soccer Teams. All of the counselors are invaluable resources for the campers who want to know what it takes to make the transition to playing soccer at the Division I level.
The Day Camps are open to campers aged 7-13, and are focused on teaching fundamental skills and introducing basic game strategy. These are outstanding camp for those just learning soccer or for those already playing on teams. Campers are grouped according to age and ability, and each camper should bring his own soccer ball and a lunch from home.
"For younger players, or those new to the game, the day camp is a blend of technical instruction and soccer related games. It is a fun-filled week spent learning the fundamentals of the game, and hanging out with our very own team," according to Coach Ellis.
The Junior Overnight Camps are for younger campers not quite ready to take-on high school, but looking for a genuine sleep-away experience, with a little bit more soccer intensity, and all of the same excitement! The girl's camp is for ages 9-13, and the boy's camp is for ages 11-13.
The Senior Overnight Camps are open to high school players, ages 14-18; both are designed for players who are seeking a more competitive session of soccer and want to see what it takes to play at the Division I level.
In addition to field instruction, the overnight camps include viewing international game film, lectures on conditioning, and discussion of college options - all contributing to the development of a well-rounded soccer athlete.
"A high school player will take from this camp the experience of training and living like a member of our UCLA teams. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to train, evaluate, and interact with your son or daughter. The high level of instruction from our coaches and players serving as counselors is invaluable," Coach Salcedo says. These camps will cover the technical and tactical functions of your position by day, and end each night in an 11v11 game.
On the boys side, we also offer a Striker/Finisher Camp and a Coed Goalkeeper Camp, for an even more specialized set of instructions, specific to each position. The Striker Camp instruction includes movement off the ball, patterns to goal and finishing competition; the Goalkeeper Camp includes technical work on shot handling, diving, crosses, breakaways, foot skills and distribution, and is appropriate for players with prior goalkeeper training. The Striker Camp is for boys only, while the Goalkeeper Camp is for boys AND girls.
