They finished off this fall with a victory on both coasts, winning the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia and winning both the junior eight and junior four at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach. Howard rowed with the USRowing Women's Junior National Team Development Camp in the summers of 2003 and 2004. In 2004 her development camp boat won a bronze medal in the junior eight event at the USRowing National Championship.

Melanie Seto is a native of San Francisco and attends Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. Seto is a coxswain for the Choate rowing team and has also played on Choate's basketball team. She is a member and advisor of the Gold Key Society, which supports the Choate admissions department, and has been named to the Dean's List. Her junior year she attended Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco. While there she played on their basketball team and garnered two academic class awards. Seto has been a coxswain for both men's and women's crews and has attended numerous camps to improve her abilities.

Vanessa Teff lives in Middleton, Wisconsin and attends Edgewood High School in Madison. She rows for the Mendota Rowing Club and most recently raced in the Championship Double event at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. In the summer of 2004 she rowed in the seven seat of the United States Junior National Team eight that placed seventh at the World Rowing Championships in Banyoles, Spain. In the summer of 2003 she was a member of the USRowing Women's Junior National Team Development Camp and was coached by UCLA assistant coach Bill Zack. Teff stroked the top development camp boat to a victory in the CANAMEX Regatta in Monterrey, Mexico as well as a national championship in the junior eight category at the USRowing National Championships. Teff is active in school activities, including leadership conferences, and is an accomplished violin player. Her brother Chris is a member of the basketball team at Marquette University.

Katja Wanberg, from Mill Valley, California, attends Tamalpais High School and rows for the Marin Rowing Association. In the spring of 2004 Wanberg stroked the Marin Rowing Association junior varsity eight to a gold medal at the USRowing Southwest Regional Championships in Sacramento. She also rowed in the three seat of Marin's victorious junior varsity four. This fall she has primarily stroked the Marin varsity eight. Marin's varsity eight captured second place at the Head of the American and fourth at the Head of the Lake.

Katie Virk lives in Ross, California and attends San Francisco University High School. She also rows for the Marin Rowing Association. Virk is now in her second year with the team. In addition to rowing, she has played basketball, field hockey, and badminton for University High School. She is fluent in Spanish and has spent summers in both Costa Rica and Spain in order to improve her language skills. Virk has also been very involved in numerous community service activities.

"We are very happy with this fall's signees, commented Head Coach Amy Fuller. "We continue to recruit well in California, but we have also shown that we can attract the best high school rowers from throughout the country. These five student-athletes will definitely play a big role in UCLA's continued climb up the Pac-10 and national rankings."
