The fourth-seeded Bruins take on top-seeded North Carolina in the second semifinal Friday beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Head Coach Jillian Ellis Opening Statement
"We are obviously very pleased to be back at the College Cup. We're excited about the match-up on Friday. We've played a pretty strong schedule this year, have had quite a bit of injuries, but we're excited about tomorrow."
About meeting North Carolina for the second time this year:
"We are definitely a different team playing a different system, with pretty similar personnel. I feel like we have evolved. I told the players after the first game against North Carolina that this result is disappointing but to win a championship, which is our goal, we will have to come through North Carolina again. We said that the one thing we need to do is learn from this and I think the biggest thing we learned on that day was that it takes 11 players to be on the field to beat North Carolina. I felt that a couple of our key players didn't play as well as they could have. We now know what needs to be done to be a good team."
Three keys to the game:
"We must have a lot of defensive pressure. We must play our game, which is ball possession. Also, we must put away our chances. When we get chances to score, we must take advantage of them."
On the team's relationship with Lance Armstrong:
"Lance Armstrong called our team before the Penn State game. He is an inspiration to our team and many others. We gave out long-sleeve yellow jerseys at the beginning of the year. On the back they say, 'take nothing for granted,' which came from Lance Armstrong's book. Each player that took the jersey had to stand in front of her teammates and say, 'I will lead my team.'"
On meeting UNC again:
Sophomore forward Iris Mora
"Anything can happen, it's the Final Four. Whatever happened on that day we can forget about and learn from it. I definitely think we are a better team now."
Senior defender Nandi Pryce
"Obviously the first time we played them this year we did not get the result me wanted. We're very excited to be able to play them again, especially since it will be in the College Cup. I think both teams have grown since then and it's going to be a fun match."
Senior midfielder Whitney Jones
"There's going to be a lot of emotions in the match tomorrow. It's a huge game."
