LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's soccer team was named one of the four No. 1 seeds in the 2008 Women's Soccer Championships on Monday, and the Bruins (18-0-2) will face Fresno State (11-8-2) in the first round this Friday at Drake Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. It marks the second year in a row that UCLA has earned a No. 1 seed in the tournament. The other top seeds are Notre Dame, North Carolina and Stanford.

The second first-round match at UCLA on Friday features San Diego (14-4-2) versus Long Beach State (14-4-4) at 8:00 p.m. Friday's winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

"We have three very strong teams coming in this weekend so we're excited," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "When it comes to the playoffs, you turn to your experience from the regular season and past tournaments. Having played in the College Cup the last few years, this team knows what it takes to do well in the tournament so hopefully we can make another deep run this year. But we are not looking ahead and our focus right now is solely on Fresno State."

Of the three teams coming to UCLA this week, the Bruins have only played San Diego this year, winning 3-0 at Drake Stadium on Oct. 5.

It marks the third time in program history that the Bruins have earned a No. 1 seed in the tournament, as UCLA was also a top seed in 2005 and 2007. The Bruins head into this year's tournament as the only team in the country to play in the last five NCAA College Cups.

Tickets for the matches are $9.00 for adults and $7.00 for youth/students.
