Merrick Tied for 19th after Three Rounds

UCLA sophomore John Merrick was one-under par through 54 holes before third-round play was suspended because of rain at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Columbus, OH.

Merrick, UCLA's lone qualifier, trailed the leader by seven shots after completing his third round Friday. He posted a par 71 Friday for a three-round total of 212.

Merrick began the day with birdies on his first three holes. He made the turn in two-under 33 after a bogey at the par four 14th, his sixth hole. On the back nine, Merrick was even par on the day after his first three holes, and two birdies and two bogeys gave him a two-over par score of 38. On the day he had five birdies and five bogeys.

UAB's Graeme McDowell is the third round leader at eight-under 205 after posting a four-under par 67 Friday. Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan also carded a 67 and is second at seven-under 206, followed by Washington's Brock Mackenzie at six-under 207.

Georgia Tech remained the team leader heading into the final round at one-over par 853 after posting a six-over par score of 290 Friday. Tulsa is second at 854 after an even par round of 284, and Washington is third at 855.
