Nov. 18, 2002

USC TROJANS: After finishing their MSPF schedule with a 11-7 win at seventh-ranked Pacific, the UCLA Bruins (12-7, 4-4 MPSF) will close out their 2002 regular season with a 10:00 am non-conference meeting with cross-town rival and third-ranked USC (18-6, 5-3 MPSF) at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center.

The Bruins own a 63-56-1 edge in the series with the Trojans, including two of the three meetings between the teams in 2002. In the most recent meeting, which was the championship match of the Nor Cal Tournament on October 6th, the Bruins posted a 6-3 victory behind Brandon Brooks' career-high 16 saves. USC picked up the lone MPSF match between the rivals with a 10-8 overtime victory back on September 28th.

The Trojans enter their final week of the 2002 season, 18-6 overall, 5-3 in MPSF action. USC notched its final MPSF win last weekend with a 11-7 victory against UC Santa Barbara. Jaraj Zatovic leads USC with 41 goals over 24 matches this season.

LAST WEEKEND: UCLA moved into fifth-place in the MPSF with a 11-7 win over Pacific in Stockton. Sophomore driver Brett Ormsby extended his scoring streak to 28 matches with his match-high five goals. Senior goalkeeper Brandon Brooks recorded seven saves in the victory. With the win, the Bruins earned the fifth-seed in the MPSF Tournament, which will be held at the Joint Force Training Base in Los Alamitos over Thanksgiving weekend. The Bruins will once again face USC in the first-round of the tournament with a 1:00 pm match-up.

THE LEXUS GAUNTLET TROPHY: This weekend's meeting with USC will mark the fourth match in the year-long Lexus Gauntlet Trophy competition. The Lexus Gauntlet Trophy will be awarded to the institution that wins the most head-to-head competitions in all sports between the schools. Currently, the Bruins lead the Trojans after winning two of the three matches between the schools this season, including an 6-3 victory in the Nor Cal Tournament championship.
