The third and final day of the Arena Invitational in Long Beach was a fast one for the Bruin swim team as two event wins and six NCAA B qualifying times were achieved. Yasi Jahanshahi and the 400 free relay highlighted the team with victories. The Bruins also had seven heat winners on the final night of competition.
"We rocked tonight," said head coach Cyndi Gallagher. "Everyone forgot they were tired and raced tonight. That relay was all heart! Ting led off faster than her individual race and Cynthia followed up on the second leg with a great split. Jesse swam out of her mind and then Bianca dove in for the anchor leg. She got passed, but fought back and passed the Cal swimmer to give the relay the win. This was a great way to wrap up this meet."
Jahanshahi won the 200 fly title with an NCAA B time of 1:57.74. Teammate Noelle Tarazona also tallied an NCAA B time as she was fourth in the championship final with a time of 1:57.83.
Fascella also swam in the championship heat of the 100 free where she finished seventh overall with an NCAA B time of 49.95. Quah won the first consol, placing ninth overall, as she also tallied an NCAA mark (49.68).
In the 200 back, Laurence Delisle finished 11th in consol 1 with a time of 2:00.23. Andrea Reigel won consol 2 with an NCAA B time of 1:58.70 (17th overall). Anna Senko was 19th (1:59.42) and Bergman was 20th (1:59.78). Emily Andelson was another heat winner for the Bruins as she won the bonus consol (25th overall) with a time of 2:00.23.
Kelsey Louden was the top finisher for the Bruins in the 200 breast as she was 23rd overall with a time of 2:20.69. Sanderud won the bonus consol with a time of 2:19.96.
The Bruins will head to Austin, TX in two weeks to compete at the Texas Invitational for their final meet of the 2011 portion of their schedule.
