UCLA HEAD COACH Sue Enquist
"It is just an honor to be in the championship game and we are proud of the fact that the Pac-10 Conference was so well represented on the final day. This was a team effort and I am so proud of my team. We have an individual in the circle that thrives on strapping this team on her back and that showed this week. It says something about her stamina, gut, talent and confidence. I am so excited for the senior class. They are the most unselfish group of Bruins I have ever coached and that says a lot because we have had a lot of great players."
On her team's greatest strength:
"Our greatest strength has been our resiliency. We haven't been a team that has gone out there consistently and dominated but what we have been able to do pick ourselves up after we shoot ourselves in the foot, and that is a huge quality to have."
UCLA JUNIOR Keira Goerl
On throwing a no-hitter in the World Series:
"I think it is pretty amazing, but it wasn't about me. It was about the defense behind me that picked me up a number of times."
UCLA SENIOR Toria Auelua
On her hit in the ninth inning:
"I just wanted to put the ball in play and help my team. I was looking for the outside pitch and I planned to put it on the right side but it didn't go that way. I'll take it anyway."
On Keira Goerl's performance:
"Honestly, I believe Keira gets stronger as the games go on. The more innings she pitches the better she gets. She just has to find her groove."
UCLA SENIOR Natasha Watley
On winning the championship:
"This is the best feeling I have had. To end like this is just amazing, and after going from the dumps last year, we never gave up."
On Keira Goerl:
"She is amazing. I really truly believe she was playing for us and not for herself. I wouldn't want anyone else in the circle but her."
CALIFORNIA HEAD COACH DIANE NINEMIRE
"I'm very proud of my team and their effort this year. I thought they really raised the bar for Cal softball. I told them to keep their heads up because the things they did in this tournament were outstanding - turning down UCLA their first game, coming back after losing a close one to Texas and then coming out yesterday and knocking off the No. 1 team in the country, Arizona. And then coming out today, it was really a tough game. It was a championship game in every sense of the word. I thought Kelly Anderson threw a great game today. We played great defense but unfortunately for us we had an opportunity with runners in scoring position but failed to get the key hit. That was basically the game."
On her team's success at the WCWS the last two seasons:
"My team just knows how to peak at the right time and play together, and they're excited about the postseason. They have a lot of heart and I give them credit for that. I can't tell you enough about how proud of them I am and how they fought, fought and fought to advance from the losers' bracket."
CALIFORNIA SOPHOMORE KELLY ANDERSON
On how tough it was coming out today after pitching two games yesterday:
"There wasn't really a difference mentally. Physically, yeah, but you have to look past the soreness and how tired you are."
On her game approach when the other pitcher is throwing a no-hitter:
"For me, it's just about getting my job done, get those ground balls and let the defense work. Hopefully you can score but it didn't work that way."
On the pitch that UCLA's Stephanie Ramos hit for a leadoff double in the ninth:
"It was a little too much on the plate because she had been taking the first pitch. I had a feeling she would (take) that time but I didn't get it far enough outside or low enough."
CALIFORNIA SENIOR VERONICA NELSON
On being pulled for a pinch runner in the seventh inning:
"It wasn't frustrating. This game came down to one run and you have to do whatever you can for your team. It is a team game and you don't go up there thinking you have to do everything yourself."
On being on the bench in the ninth inning:
"I wasn't disappointed. I have the utmost confidence in Mikella Pedretti. I know that she can hit it out, she can get on base, she can do whatever it takes for the team. In that situation there is nothing you can do because you are already out of the game. All you can do is cheer for your team and give them all your support."
