Four Bruin decathletes wrapped up competition on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational Decathlon in Azusa.

Marcus Nilsson was competing in the top section of the decathlon, the Mt. SAC Relays section, and was on track for a huge score before no-heighting in the pole vault. Despite not clearing a height, the sophomore surpassed 7000 points and finished 11th overall (7025 pts.).

On the final day of the decathlon, Nilsson tallied two lifetime-bests and one season-best performance. He ran a career-best 14.99 in the 110m hurdles for the seventh-fastest time of the day (851 pts.). He then threw a lifetime-best of 144-1 in the discus for the No. 2 mark in the competition (744 pts.).

Nilsson then no-heighted in the pole vault, but rebounded with a season-best throw of 188-6 in the javelin (3rd, 700 pts.). He ended the day with the No. 2 1500m time, 4:21.17, for 7025 points.

Dominic Giovannoni, David Thomas and Trent Perez were competing in the top section of the California Invite. Giovannoni finished fourth (7046 pts.), Perez was ninth (6789 pts.) and Thomas finished 10th (6736 pts.).

Giovannoni started his day off with a lifetime-best run in the high hurdles (14.69, 887 pts.) for the third-fastest time of the day. He was fourth in the discus (122-8, 612 pts.), tied for seventh in the pole vault (14-9, 760 pts.), 13th in the javelin (125-10/418 pts.) and ended the day with the 10th-fastest time in the 1500m (4:53.52, 598 pts.).

Perez started the day with the 11th-fastest time in the 110m hurdles (16.09, 723 pts.). He was 14th in the discus (103-8, 496 pts.), tied for fifth in the pole vault (15-1, 790 pts.) and placed eighth in the javelin (152-8, 537 pts.). Perez ended the day by winning the 1500m with a time of 4:19.98 (812 pts.).

Thomas scored a lifetime-best of 6736. He started the day with a season-best run in the 110m hurdles (15.74, 762 pts.). Thomas was sixth in the discus (120-11, 601 pts.), tied for fifth in the pole vault (15-1, 790 pts.), placed 15th in the javelin (121-6, 399 pts.) and ended the competition with a lifetime-best run of 5:00.19 in the 1500m (559 pts.).
