Box Score

Los Angeles, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team captured its fifth straight game overall and its fourth straight game to open the Pac-10 season by outscoring Washington State 93-51 today in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins, now 9-4 overall, lead the Pac-10 conference with a 4-0 mark. Senior guard Michelle Greco led UCLA with 23 points. Greco hit 10 of her 13 shots from the field and also recorded a career-high tying seven steals in the game.

After trailing 5-4 at the 17:07 mark, the Bruins went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes and never looked back while running out to a 53-20 lead at halftime. UCLA was credited with scoring 46 of its game total of 93 points off of 33 Washington State turnovers. Its biggest lead was 46 points and it came several times in the second half.

Freshman guard Lisa Willis backed up Greco with 15 points and five steals. Junior forward Jamila Veasley led UCLA with six rebounds and added a career-best three blocked shots.

Washington State, now 0-11 and 0-3 in the Pac-10, was led by Bianca McCall who came off the bench to score 15 points and grab a game-high nine rebounds.

The five-game winning streak is the longest by a Bruin team since a seven-game stretch in the 1999-00 season. The last time the Bruins opened the conference with a better start was a 6-0 beginning to the 1999-00 season. UCLA will next play on Sunday, Jan. 12, hosting USC at Noon in Pauley Pavilion in a game to be televised on Fox Sports Net.
