June 3, 2007
head coach John Savage
"It was a hard fought game. We started off rough again somewhat like last night. [Tim] Murphy really struggled early and then fair game. He found his composure and started throwing strikes. It was a game of what we needed to do offensively, we kept on going at them. It was a great win for our program. "
on next week's Super Regionals
"We're just going to enjoy the rest of this weekend and we're looking forward to playing next weekend as this is our first since 2000, I think. We hope that the NCAA will be fair and we'll see how it comes out. The bottom line is that we're moving on and we're looking forward to playing next weekend."
on the bullpen being rusty for next weekend
"Well ... no. That's why you practice. We'll throw a bunch of bullpens over next week. Our guys will be ready, we've had a great year. Unfortunately, our bullpen didn't see any action this weekend. You've got to give a lot of credit to the three guys this weekend."
on using only three pitchers for the regional
"Something that I haven't seen in my 15 years of coaching Division I baseball, having three guys and Murphy closing on Friday. With [Tyson] Brummett and Gavin [Brooks], you can't say enough about their endurance, they stayed strong all year, they pitched with their fastball this weekend and went after hitters and challenged them. This ballpark [Blair Field] is a little bit different than ours, so we pitch a little bit different."
sophomore pitcher Tim Murphy
thoughts on the game
"We've experienced this before, but definitely running low on the tank, but you always got to think you got some left in you and hopefully you got it and push out everything out of the way."
junior second baseman Alden Carrithers
thoughts on the Long Beach Regional
"You've got four really good teams coming into this weekend and Coach [Savage] said anyone could pull it off. We were able to play our game and come out with a win."
Regional MVP, sophomore third baseman Jermaine Curtis
"We believed we could win this regional. Like [Tim] Murphy said, one pitch and one inning at a time. We struggled at the beginning, but you've got to come out and play every inning and we believed in every pitch."
