UCLA Rowing's Lynn Hancock Earns Prestigious Award from Rowing Canada

Nov. 16, 2007

VICTORIA, British Columbia - UCLA sophomore rower Lynn Hancock has been selected as a part of the Rowing Canada Aviron Female Sweep Crew of the Year, as announced by Rowing Canada Aviron earlier this month.

Hancock and Leah Volkers will be awarded at a presentatio and banquet in Ottawa, Ontario, on Dec. 1.

Last season, Hancock primarily rowed in the six seat of UCLA's varsity eight crew. Named the Bruins' "Freshman of the Year" by season's end, Hancock helped lead UCLA to its third consecutive NCAA Championships at-large berth.

In the spring of 2007, Hancock guided UCLA to early-season wins against Loyola Marymount and San Diego State. The Bruins' varsity eight crew finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championships in May and raced to a 14th place overall finish at the NCAA Championships later that month.

The rowing team opens its 2008 spring campaign against Loyola Marymount in Marina del Rey, Calif., on Saturday, March 8.
