Men's Cross Country Heads to Pac-10 Championships

This Saturday, November 1, the Bruin men's cross country squad will compete at the Pac-10 Championships. This year's conference meet, hosted by Washington State, will take place at the Washington State Golf Course in Pullman, WA. The UCLA men will compete in the 8K Men's Championship Race at noon, which is followed by the 6K Women's Championship at 1:00 PM.

Racing for the Bruins are juniors Ben Aragon, Jon Rankin, Erik Emilsson and Reggie Oronoz, sophomores Nick De Felice, Martell Munguia and Mohammed Qazi, redshirt freshman Chad Galbreath and true freshmen Micky Cobrin and Austin Ramos. This season, Ramos has been the Bruins' No. 1 runner on four occasions. Most recently, he placed 41st at the Pre-National Invitational in Waterloo, IA.

At last year's meet, hosted by UCLA at the Brookside Country Club in Pasadena, CA, Emilsson, Aragon and Rankin were the top-three UCLA finishers. Emilsson placed 24th in 24:47, followed by Aragon, who was 31st in 25:05. Rankin placed 45th, running the 8,000m course in 25:22. As a team, UCLA placed eighth with 183 points.

Following the conference championships, two meets remain in 2003. The NCAA Region VIII Championships will be held November 15 in Portland, OR. The NCAA Championships will take place Monday, November 24 in Waterloo, IA.
