LOS ANGELES - Junior Sean Kern (Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) of the UCLA men's water polo team was selected the MPSF Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 20-26.
Kern, a two-time All-American, scored the game-winning goal with just 22 seconds remaining in regulation to give the third-ranked Bruins a 6-5 upset victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Kern scored another crucial goal in the match to pull the Bruins to within one, 3-2, with one second to play in the third quarter. His first goal put UCLA in a position to rally for the come-from-behind MPSF win.
Kern also scored a pair of goals in the 11-9 victory over Cal on Sunday, Sept. 26. He helped seal the Bruin win with a goal with 1:39 left in the game.
Kern is the first UCLA player to earn Player of the Week honors from the MPSF this season. Also this week, he was selected the MET-Rx/UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week.
