Bruins Return To Action This Week
The UCLA women's swimming and diving team return to action this Saturday to host Washington State and UC San Diego in a double dual meet at the Men's Gym Pool. The meet, scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, will be the final home contest of the season for UCLA. The diving competition will also begin at 11:00 am at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
Divers Ring In the New Year In Georgia
The UCLA diving team brought in the new year with solid performances last weekend (Jan 5-7) at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Georgia. The meet featured competitors from some of the nations top programs, including host Georgia, Miami, Florida and South Carolina.
Sophomore Regan Gosnell continued to record impressive results as she was the highest Bruin finisher in the one-meter (6th/444.90) and three-meter (8th/226.60). Senior Anne Baghramian was equally impressive as she placed seventh in two events, the three-meter (434.60) and the platform event (332.70).
Other notable performances included freshman Michelle Brown who was UCLA's top finisher in the platform (6th/339.85). Brown also finished 10th in the three-meter (429.50) and 16th in the one-meter (223.95).
Heidi Prosser also had a solid weekend after placing 10th in the one-meter (239.45) and 13th on the three-meter 420.20.
UCLA Ranked No. 2 In Latest Poll
Head coach Cyndi Gallgher's women's swimming and diving team is the No. 2 ranked team in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll released on December 14. The Bruins received a total of 191 votes and one first place vote. Georgia, the top ranked team in the country, received 196 votes and seven first place votes. Pac-10 schools Stanford and Arizona occupy the third and fourth spots, while Auburn is ranked No. 5.
