WALNUT CREEK, CA - UCLA softball player Tairia Mims has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Feb 12-18, 2001, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mims, a sophomore who plays four defensive positions for UCLA (1B, 3B, RF, C), hit .571 for the week, going 12-for-21 at the plate for the top-ranked Bruins. That total included six home runs, 11 runs scored, 19 RBI, 31 total bases, a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.476 slugging percentage. She was also perfect defensively on six attempts while playing catcher, third base and right field.
Mims hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats against Wisconsin (Feb. 17) at the UNLV Classic. Of UCLA's six games this week, the only game in which Mims did not homer was Friday's game against Kansas, although she did manage to go 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Mims is currently hitting .449 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI.
It is the first weekly honor for Mims and the 53rd for UCLA all-time. Mims is now eligible for NFCA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced on Feb. 21.
