The Bruin swimmers fell to the Washington Huskies 134-128 in the final home dual meet of the season. UCLA (4-2, 2-2 Pac-10) had seven event winners while the senior class swam for the last time in Men's Gym Pool.
The meet was closely contested from start to finish with the Huskies taking the first event - the 400 medley relay. The Bruins charged back with event wins by sophomores Sam Vanden Berge in the 1000 free (10:01.49) and Emily Bibb in the 200 free (1:51.50).
The Huskies notched wins in the next two events - the 100 back and 100 breast, but wins by freshman Yasi Jahanshahi in the 200 fly (2:00.82) and senior Anna Poteete in the 50 (23.68) and 100 free (51.20) continued to give the Bruins the edge in scoring. Washington closed the gap with wins in the 200 back and 200 breast, and added another win in the 100 fly.
Vanden Berge won her second event of the day, the 500 free (4:54.20) and sophomore Lauren Hall had a big race in the 400 IM to win (4:18.20) to give UCLA a 126-119 lead heading into the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay. UCLA led for most of the race, but UW surged ahead in the final leg, taking the top two places and a meet victory.
