Eric Reed Named PDL Goalkeeper Of The Year

UCLA senior goalkeeper Eric Reed was awarded 2006 Premier Development League (PDL) Goalkeeper of the Year honors after leading the league with a 0.62 goals against average.

Reed, who played for the Southern California Seahorses, helped lead his team to its first-ever regular season division title, posting a 12-3-0 record in his third year with the club. He also led the league in shutouts with 10.

At UCLA last season, Reed earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors and third-team NSCAA/adidas All-Far West Region acclaim. He ranked sixth in the nation with a 0.60 goals against average and a 0.843 shots on goal save percentage.

Reed is the second consecutive Bruin to earn PDL Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Nate Pena was honored in 2005.

Reed and the Bruins held their first practice this morning. The Bruins' first contest will be an Aug. 20 exhibition game against Loyola Marymount at UCLA's North Athletic Field. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
