The Bruin swimmers and divers notched their second Pac-10 win of the season on Friday as they defeated ASU 160-140 in Tempe. UCLA was solid in the pool as the team tallied 34 season-best marks and picked up four NCAA qualifiers.
Leading the way for the Bruins were several women who tallied double event wins - junior Brittany Beauchan, sophomore Yasi Jahanshahi and freshmen Laurence Delisle. In all, UCLA had eight individual event winners and took first in the opening relay of the meet.
For the second straight meet, Beauchan has been unstoppable in the breaststroke events as she again won both the 100 and 200 races. She swam a season-best and NCAA "B" qualifier of 1:02.22 in the 100 breast and then won the 200 in a time of 2:14.04 (also an NCAA "B" time).
Jahanshahi placed first in both the 100 (55.31) and 200 fly as she swam an NCAA mark of 1:54.45 in the 200. Freshman Lindsey Marchand also tied for first in the 100 fly, swimming the same mark as Jahanshahi, 55.31.
Delisle finished first in both backstroke events with times of 56.07 in the 100 and 1:59.87 in the 200.
Also posting wins during the meet were the 200 medley relay team of senior Isabell Fischer, Beauchan, Marchand and sophomore Madison Fitzgerald (1:43.51), junior Sam Vanden Berge in the 1000 free (10:11.80) and junior Lauren Hall in the 400 IM (4:18.32, NCAA "B").
The Bruins will head to Tucson on Saturday to face Arizona. The Wildcats defeated USC 180-119 on Friday.
