The fourth-ranked UCLA women's golf team took the opening round lead at the inaugural Pac-10/SEC Challenge Friday, hosted by Stanford at its home course in Palo Alto.
The Bruins posted a first round score of 285 (+1) and held a one-stroke lead over Arizona and Auburn, who were tied at 286 (+2). Washington was fourth at 287 (+3), followed by fifth place Arkansas at 288 (+4).
Individually for the Bruins, senior Glory Yang fired a 69 (-2) and was tied for fourth place with three other players. It was her best round of the season. She trailed Cal's Joanna Lee, who fired an opening round 65 (-6). Sophomore Tiffany Lua was tied for ninth place at 71 (E), followed by freshman Ani Gulugian, who posted a 72 (+1) and was tied for 22nd. Tied for 29th were juniors Brianna Do and Stephanie Kono who each carded rounds of 73 (+2).
