Paulina Guzman, a freshman diver for the Bruins, has been selected to represent her native Guatemala in the upcoming Canada Cup FINA Grand Prix Meet, being held April 28th-May 1st in Montreal, Quebec. Paulina will be returning to international competition for the first time at the Grand Prix meet level in over four years.
FINA hosts a series of five or six Grand Prix Meets each year in which the top divers from top programs around the world are invited to participate.
"This is a great opportunity for Paulina to see how she fits into the world scene," said UCLA dive coach Tom Stebbins. "Teams from Russia, Mexico, China, USA, and host Canada, among others, will be represented."
The meet will act as the PanAm Games qualifier for Paulina. Should she meet her federation's international marks, she will have additional opportunities to compete presented to her during the upcoming year.
During her freshman year at UCLA, Guzman was a solid competitor for the Bruins on all three disciplines (1M, 3M, platform). At Pac-10s, Guzman was fifth on three-meter with a lifetime-best score of 321.00 points. She also competed on both springboards at the NCAA Zone E Championships.
