Moon Wins Medalist Honors at California State Amateur

June 17, 2003

UCLA junior Roy Moon won medalist honors at the 92nd California State Amateur Championships Tuesday. The tournament was played at the Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach Golf Links and will now move exclusively to Pebble Beach for the match play competition among the 32 top players.

Moon fired rounds of 71-70-141, three-under par. He won by four strokes over Jeff Coburn from Ojai. Also in the field are Spencer Levin, a former teammate, and the defending champion, Eddie Heinen of Las Vegas, both at 148. The last UCLA player to win California State Amateur medalist honors was Steve Conway in 1999.

Moon will meet the 32nd seeded player after a playoff for the final two spots is completed later Tuesday afternoon.
