Cunningham brings a variety of rowing experience to UCLA. Since 2004, he has served as an assistant coach for the Columbia University men's rowing team, helping their heavyweight crews establish their status as an East Coast power. In addition, he has worked as a rigger and West Coast representative of Resolute Racing, gaining expertise in the rigging of elite racing shells.
A two-time All-Ivy League selection at Brown, Cunningham rowed for the varsity heavyweight eight, leading the crew to a silver medal in 1999 at the Eastern Sprints and to the gold medal in 2000. Brown's varsity eight in 2000 also secured the gold medal at the Henley Royal Regatta.
In addition, Cunningham earned bronze medals at the 2000 Under-23 World Championships and the 2001 World Cup. From 1999-2001, he finished in the top 10 at the CRASH-B Championships, the world indoor rowing championships. Following graduation from Brown, he taught humanities at The Island School (Cape Eleuthera, The Bahamas) and coached at The Brunswick School (Greenwich, Conn.).
A native of Philadelphia, Cunningham rowed for one season at Monsignor Bonner High, during which he captured the Philadelphia City Championship.
Cunningham resides in Marina del Rey, Calif.
