Grant Chen enters his third season as Director of Tennis Operations at UCLA. His current responsibilities include overseeing and assisting with all facets of both the men's and women's programs.
Chen, who graduated from UCLA in 2006 with a degree in sociology, served as the team manager for the men's tennis team from 2001-2006. Upon graduation, he assumed the role of Director of Tennis Operations, however left after one season to pursue other goals. During his time away from UCLA, Chen worked in sports management, assisting with a handful of prominent local tennis professionals in the Los Angeles Area.
Chen served as head coach of the UCLA Club Tennis Team from 2007-10. He coached the team to a pair of Southern California Regional Championships in 2007 and 2008, including a third-place national finish in 2010. Chen was a member of the club tennis team from 2005-2006, winning both the Fall and Spring Intramural events at UCLA while leading the team to a regional title and a top 5 finish at nationals. Prior to college, Chen was captain of the Dos Pueblos High School tennis team in Santa Barbara where he won the Channel League doubles title as a junior and was a singles finalist his senior year. He graduated with multiple MVP, All-Channel League and All-CIF honors.
For the past 10 years, Chen has also assisted coach Billy Martin with his winter and summer UCLA Tennis Camps, along with the Bassett/Martin Tennis Camp in Big Bear, Calif.
The Santa Barbara native is an avid golfer who currently resides in Brentwood, California.
