Bruins Women's Tennis Defeat Arizona by 1 Point

Wildcats fall just short of UCLA.

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona women's tennis squad almost closed out the Bruins of UCLA but fell short one point in a dual match to go 1-1 in the Pac-10 season and 3-2 overall. Vicky Maes (UA) had a match against Annica Cooper (UA) falling 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the No. 1 position. Betsy Mringoff (UA) held on to victory against UCLA's Elizabeth Schimidt along with Wildcat Vanessa Abel (UA) who defeated Alyson Gray (UCLA) in a tough three set match 6-2, 6-7, (6), 6-3. Junior Monique Allegre (UA) displayed a great effort against Brandi Fruedenberg (UCLA) 6-1, 6-4. Michelle Gough (UA) played a tough singles match against Kati Kocsis (UCLA) lsing her first set 6-0, and the second set 7-6 (7).

The doubles action was close as well with team Maes/Buczowska (UA) losing to Cristina Popescu/Elizabeth Schmidt (UA) 8-5. The No. 2 combination of Mirnoff and Allegre (UA) defeated Kati Kocsis/ Annica Cooper (UCLA) 8-6.
