UCLA Set to Open NCAA Los Angeles Regional Against San Diego State

Bruins will take on Aztecs at 6 p.m. on Friday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Helped lead UCLA to two NCAA Regionals (2008, 2010) and the Bruins' third-ever trip to the College World Series in 2010...had a sensational season as the Bruins' closer in 2010...as a redshirt sophomore in 2010, recorded 10 saves, the second-highest single-season total in school history...selected in the third round (85th overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.

Made 39 appearances (all in relief), tying UCLA's single-season appearances record...also tied for the Pac-10 lead in appearances with Arizona State's Mitchell Lambson...served as UCLA's closer, notching 10 saves, the second-highest total single-season total in program history and the third-most saves among Pac-10 pitchers in 2010...earned All-Pac-10 Team honors, going 6-1 with a team-leading 1.90 ERA...tallied 55 strikeouts and 11 walks in 52.0 innings, limiting the opposition to a .204 batting average...earned second-team All-America accolades from Ping! Baseball...in postseason play, posted a 1-1 record with one save and 0.93 ERA in six appearances, logging seven strikeouts and three walks in 9.2 innings...registered two saves of 2.0 innings on the season...opened the year having pitched 20.1 consecutive scoreless innings before allowing his first run of the season in a 16-inning victory against Oregon State (April 10)...recorded three strikeouts in a one-inning outing twice - during victories at home against Vanderbilt (Feb. 26) and Pepperdine (March 30)...logged a season-high four strikeouts in two games - at Oregon State (April 10) and in the College World Series versus South Carolina (June 29) in the Bruins' final game of the year...struck out three batters, allowing one hit in 1.1 innings to earn his first save of the season against USC at Dodger Stadium (Feb. 28)...had a two-inning save against Oklahoma (March 14) in the Bruins' final game of the Whataburger College Classic (March 14) - entered the eighth inning with one runner aboard and nobody out (UCLA ahead, 3-2) before inducing a groundball double play and fly out to exit the inning...recorded his second victory of the year against Stanford (April 1) after entering a tied ballgame (5-5), helping UCLA extend its perfect season-opening record to 22-0...earned the save in a 4-1 victory over UC Irvine (April 27), striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning...earned his ninth save of the season in UCLa's second of three games at Washington (May 8), throwing 1.1 hitless innings...pitched a scoreless ninth inning in each of the Bruins' final two victories at the NCAA Regionals - versus LSU (June 5) and UC Irvine (June 6)...earned the victory in Game 2 of the NCAA Super Regional against Cal State Fullerton (June 12), allowing one run (unearned) and two hits in 2.1 innings as UCLA overcame a 6-5 deficit in the ninth inning...finish the game in each of UCLA's two wins against TCU at the College World Series - picked up the save in a 6-3 victory (June 21) and threw a scoreless ninth inning five days later (June 26), sending UCLA into the finals of the College World Series...allowed one run and one hit in a career-high 3.1 innings against South Carolina in the final game of the College World Series, striking out four and walking two - was charged with the loss in a 2-1 decision (June 29).

Made seven appearances, including two starts... logged a 2-2 record and 7.64 ERA in 17.2 innings...in his first four relief appearances (9.2 innings), posted a 1.82 ERA with 12 strikeouts and just one walk...registered a career-high six strikeouts in relief against UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 27), scattering four hits in 4.1 scoreless innings...in an unusual statistical occurrence, earned his first collegiate win and first collegiate loss in the same day, UCLA's season-opening doubleheader versus Oklahoma (Feb. 23); struck out one hitter in relief in the season opener to record the Bruins' first victory of the season...missed over two months of the season with shoulder soreness.
