UCLA — Matt figures to battle with Ed Ieremia-Stansbury for playing time at fullback throughout the 2001 season … A veteran player who is a dependable blocker and a steady performer, he was awarded a scholarship in the Fall of 1999 after spending two years on the squad as a walk-on … He possesses great size and strength … He did not participate in Spring Practice while rehabilitating his right shoulder from off-season surgery.

2000 — Matt began the season as the No. 1 fullback, starting against both Alabama and Michigan (UCLA did not start a fullback versus Fresno State) … He injured his shoulder versus the Wolverines and missed three of the next five games … Stanley appeared in a total of nine games, including six on offense … He played 27 snaps versus Fresno State and 20 against Alabama … A fine blocker, he did not carry the ball … On the year, he made three receptions for 24 yards, including two for 27 yards in the opener against Alabama … He also contributed on the kickoff return and punt coverage teams.

HIGH SCHOOL — Earned four letters in football under coach Steve Podlasiak at Bexley High in Columbus, OH … As a senior in 1996, he earned second-team All-State and first-team All-District and All-Columbus acclaim … Selected team MVP … Rushed for 1,460 yards and scored 25 touchdowns as a senior … During his career, he rushed for over 4,000 yards and scored 48 TDs … Also earned three varsity letters in basketball and two each in baseball and track … In basketball, he averaged 10 points and six rebounds as a senior … In 1997, earned All-State honors in the 100 high hurdles.
