Mike Rutenberg is in his second season as a defensive graduate assistant with the Bruins and assists defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker while he works towards a Masters Degree in Education.
Rutenberg also works with the secondary, assisting Walker and Tim Hauck. Rutenberg is in charge of playbook administration, as well as opponent breakdown, and self scout breakdown of the Bruins. He also assists with the defensive game plan each week and will run the scout team offense during practice. Last season, he worked with a unit that ranked 29th nationally in total defense and helped recruit a Top 10 class to Westwood this past February.
Prior to coming to Westwood, Rutenberg served as the assistant to Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs, dealing with the day-to-day football operations and administrative coaching assignments including daily football schedule and calendar, practice schedules and meeting presentations. He also worked with Coach Gibbs on team and opponent statistical research projects. Rutenberg also served as a player personnel intern and assistant for the Redskins where he maintained the pro and college computer scouting systems and pro and college draft boards. He also helped organize in-season free agent workouts and evaluated Street Free Agent Film.
