Womens Golfers Qualify for NCAA West Regionals

Tobian-Steinmann Seeking 16th NCAA Apearance

The UCLA womens golf team qualified for the NCAA West Regionals this week after finishing fourth in the 1999 Pacific-10 Championships at the Stanford Golf Course, Apr. 23-25.

Head Coach Jackie Tobian Steinmann, who will retire at the end of the season, will send her 16th ranked Bruins to the Pine Forest Country Club in Houston, TX, May 6-8. The top 11 fininishers in the field of 19 teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships to be hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Tulsa Country Club, May 19-22.

In the April 28 MasterCard rankings, the Bruins boasted two players ranked among the nations top 100 individuals - freshman Giulia Sergas was ranked 55th and junior Alexandra Gasser was 68th. Sergas tied for third individually at the Pac-10 Championships and Gasser has recorded five top 20 finishes this season.

In 22 seasons, Tobian-Steinmann has guided the Bruins to 15 NCAATournament appearances and won the 1991 NCAA title.
