Susie Mathews ... At The NCAA Championships

Following is the online diary of Susie Mathews as she competes in the NCAA Championships this week at Auburn’s Grand National Resort in Opelika, AL.

Day 5-6
May 22, Fourth Round (cont'd)

Mathews carded a 72 in the final round, playing the back nine in two under par as the Bruins won the national championship.

It’s pretty awesome to win this thing. It was quite hot most of the day but we settled down and pulled through in the end. I’m carrying the trophy right now. We’ve all taken turns with it.

We were a bit tense earlier today, but we finally settled down and controlled our nerves.

I started the day with birdies on nine, 10 and 12. I had birdie chances on some other holes, but the putts didn’t fall.

On the last hole I looked at the leaderboard and saw that we were three shots ahead. When I made my putt there was all sorts of cheering. It was just fantastic!

We all got to go in and do our [group] interview afterwards. We got to sit at the front table with the NCAA banner behind us. It was quite a lot of fun to do the press thing. We even got to keep our name tags.
