Junior forward Larry Ndjock from the UCLA men’s soccer team was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Dec 8-14.
Ndjock scored two goals for the Bruins in the NCAA College Cup, both coming in UCLA’s dramatic double overtime semifinal win over Providence. With the game scoreless, Ndjock netted his first goal of the game, just minutes before the halftime whistle. After Ndjock got in behind the defense, he corralled the rebound off of his initial attempt and tucked the second shot in to give UCLA the early 1-0 advantage. Then, with the Bruins trailing 2-1 late in the game, it was Ndjock again who played hero to keep the season alive. Abu Danladi sent a cross into the box which was deflected high in the air towards the far post. Ndjock leaped in the air and headed it just inside the post on the far side to equalize for UCLA. The Bruins would eventually win in double overtime, 3-2. In the finals, UCLA lost in penalty kicks, but Ndjock scored on his lone penalty attempt. Ndjock was selected to the College Cup All-Tournament team, and his two goals were his sixth and seventh of the season, giving him the second-most goals on the team.
This is Ndjock’s first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
