MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - The No. 6 UCLA women's rowing program was edged by No. 1 USC in three of five races at the annual dual meet between the crosstown rivals on Saturday morning.
USC finished ahead of UCLA in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four races. USC's largest margin of victory came by just 2.5 seconds in the varsity eight race.
UCLA earned victories over the Women of Troy in the second varsity four and novice/freshman eight races.
The Bruins' varsity eight crew posted a time of 5:56.60, just 2.5 seconds behind USC. UCLA's second varsity eight crossed the finish line 2.4 seconds behind the Women of Troy. UCLA posted a time of 6:05.40, while USC crossed the finish line in 6:03.00.
The varsity four race featured the closest finish of the day. UCLA registered a time of 6:40.10, just three-tenths of a second behind USC's time of 6:39.80.
UCLA's two victories featured the largest margins of victory on Saturday morning. The second varsity four finished seven seconds ahead of USC, while the novice eight paced the Women of Troy by 19.1 seconds.
Saturday morning's races featured floating starts, with a race order as follows: 2V4+, N8+, V8+, 2V8+, and V4+.
UCLA will return to action at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships and Pac-12 Championships the weekend of May 18-19 in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
