CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 15th-ranked Bruins were tied with Oregon State in the top of the sixth inning until a seven-run outburst helped propel them to an 8-1 victory on Saturday at the OSU Softball Complex. Freshman Allexis Bennett had three hits and drove in two, sophomore Stephany LaRosa added two hits and a three-run homer and freshman Britney Rodriguez recorded a pair of hits.

Junior Jessica Hall picked up the win in relief to improve to 9-6 on the year. She struck out three in four shutout frames, allowing just three hits and one walk. Hall had a 1-2-3 inning to close out the game in the seventh and struck out a pair in the fifth. Sophomore Ally Carda started the contest and fanned one in three innings, giving up one run, three hits and two walks. The Bruins had 10 hits as a team, with six different players getting at least one hit.

The Beavers scored in their first at-bat. With one out, Ashley Sanchez reached on an infield single to short and moved to second one out later on a passed ball. Natalie Hampton followed with a double to left to bring home Sanchez to make it 1-0.

In the second, a great defensive play by Oregon State robbed UCLA of a pair of runs. With one out, Hall was hit by a pitch, and one out later, freshman Brittany Moeai singled up the middle. Sophomore Gracie Goulder then lifted a fly ball to right-center, but Hannah Bouska made a diving catch to keep the Bruins off the scoreboard.

UCLA would tie the game up with a run in its half of the third. Bennett led off with a single to left-center, stole second, moved to third on a ground out to second by senior B.B. Bates and scored on a sacrifice fly to right off the bat of Carda to even the game at one.

Bennett saved a run on a nice defensive play to end the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Ya Garcia walked and Ally Kutz singled to left. Bennett then made back-to-back catches in the outfield, including a running grab in left-center off the bat of Lea Cavestany to end the inning.

In the sixth, the Bruins broke it open with seven runs, sending 10 batters to the plate. Hall led off with a double to right-center and was pinch-run for by sophomore Kaelin Sprawls, who scored on a double to center by Rodriguez to make it 2-1. One out later, Goulder tapped a ball to third, but it was low, which allowed Rodriguez to move to third and Goulder to second. Bennett followed with a triple down the right-field line to score both runners to put the Bruins up 4-1.

Bates then lifted a fly ball to left, but the Oregon State left and center fielders had a miscommunication as the ball dropped, which allowed Bennett to score and Bates to reach second on a double. After a walk to Carda, LaRosa hammered a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left for her 15th homer of the season to put the Bruins ahead 8-1.

The Bruins find out where their postseason journey begins on Sunday when the NCAA Selection Show airs live on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
