UCLA and its head baseball coach John Savage have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension that will run through 2025, as approved today by interim action of the Regents of the University of California.

Through nine seasons as UCLA’s head coach, Savage has led the Bruins to the 2013 NCAA championship, three appearances at the College World Series and seven trips to the postseason. His teams have produced 65 MLB Draft selections in nine years, including four first-round picks.

"I cannot begin to express how much John Savage means to this program and to our university," said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. "We’ve been together for many years, and this commitment is well-deserved for a person as extraordinary as John. He has built a national championship baseball program and recruited terrific young men to our program. His teams continue to succeed both on and off the field and have exemplified the meaning of a student-athlete. We are thrilled to have John leading our program and are very excited for the future of UCLA Baseball."

Savage has compiled a 324-224 record in nine seasons as UCLA’s head coach. In addition to winning the 2013 NCAA Championship, Savage’s teams have posted the top three single-season win totals in program history (including a school-record 51 wins in 2010). He was named the National Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2010.

"I am extremely grateful to Dan Guerrero, Gene Block, and the administration for this commitment, and I look forward to carrying on the proud tradition of UCLA Baseball," Savage said. "UCLA is a very special place for my family, and the last nine years have been extremely rewarding. I’m excited about our program’s future, and we look to continue to build off our success."

UCLA finished the 2013 season with a 49-17 record and a perfect 10-0 mark in the postseason. Savage guided the Bruins to back-to-back Pac-12 Conference titles in 2011 and 2012. His teams have finished in first, second or third place in the conference standings each of the past eight seasons, a feat accomplished by no other Pac-12 program.

In the last four years, Savage's teams have collected 183 wins, a total that ranks sixth in the nation and first in the Pac-12. His winning percentage since 2010 is a staggering .712.

Additionally, Savage is one of just five coaches in college baseball history to have led his team to at least one College World Series championship, produced a No. 1 overall MLB Draft selection and coached a Golden Spikes Award winner.
