UCLA relief pitcher James Kaprielian was named to the Cape Cod League All-Star Team earlier this week and will compete for the East Division side tomorrow night in the 2013 Cape Cod League All-Star Game.
Kaprielian, a right-hander from Tustin, Calif., posted a 1.55 ERA in 34 relief appearances for the Bruins in 2013. He recorded the second-lowest ERA on the team this past season and the 10th-lowest in a single-season in UCLA history. Additionally, Kaprielian recorded two saves while giving up seven earned runs in 40.2 innings, serving as an integral part of a bullpen that helped lead UCLA to the 2013 NCAA Championship. He also struck out 53 batters and allowed just a .141 batting average against him all year.
In Pac-12 play, Kaprielian appeared in 16 games while posting a 1.65 ERA and 19 strikeouts. He appeared in six postseason games for the Bruins, giving up just one run in 5.2 innings pitched while striking out seven.
Currently, Kaprielian is spending his summer with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, appearing in five games (three starts) while posting a 1.80 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched. He has yet to earn a decision for the Red Sox.
The 2013 Friendly’s Cape League All-Star game will be played on Saturday, July 27 at Red Wilson Field (home of the Y-D Red Sox). First pitch is at 1:30 p.m. PT and the game will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports (which can be seen on Comcast Channel 262 and DirecTV Channel 623).
