Competition Concludes at FINA World Championships and U.S. Open

Swimming wrapped up at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona and the U.S. Open in Irvine last weekend. Ting Quah represented her native Singapore well in Spain, while stateside, Katy Campbell reached the podium twice at the U.S. Open.

Campbell set personal, long-course bests in all three of her events, the 400, 800 and 1500 Freestyle. She reached the A Final of the 400 Free with a time of 4:12.57 in the preliminaries, finishing eighth in the final (4:15.42). Campbell also had another Top 8 podium showing in the 800 Free (7th, 8:35.83) and placed 10th in the 1500 Free (16:44.70).

Noelle Tarazona reached a pair of finals races. In the 200 Butterfly, she was 11th after the prelims with a time of 2:13.51 to make the B Final, improving her mark in the final with a 2:12.53 to place 13th. Tarazona also made the C Final of the 400 Individual Medley, improving her time from the prelim to the final by nearly two seconds (4:54.58 to 4:52.62) to finish 20th.

Lauren Baker swam with her teammate Campbell in the same three events and had Top 25 showings in each. She was ninth in the 1500 Free (16:44.46), 21st in the 800 Free (8:47.82) and 25th in the 400 Free (4:18.64).

In the 100 Fly, a pair of Bruins reached the finals. Katie Kinnear was 12th after the prelims (1:00.56) to make the B Final and finished 14th in that race with a time of 1:00.61. Anna Senko was in the C Final, going 1:00.97 (22nd) in the prelims and 1:01.09 (23rd) in the final.

Quah swam in three individual races and two relays against the world's best swimmers at the FINA World Championships. Her best showing was 21st in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:14.10. She also finished 29th in the 200 Free (2:02.57) and 38th in the 100 Free (56.70). 

Quah led off the 4x100 Free Relay team with a 56.81 split, as Singapore finished 14th. She also swam the third leg of the 4x100 Medley Relay and her homeland placed 15th.
