BOSTON – UCLA sophomore Kyle Anderson has secured Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team accolades, as announced by CollegeInsider.com.

Anderson, a 6-foot-9 guard from Fairview, N.J., is among 22 players named to this season’s preseason All-America team. He averaged 9.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a freshman at UCLA in 2012-13. Anderson secured second-team All-Pac-12 Conference honors and was one of five freshmen named to last season’s All-Pac-12 Freshman Team.

UCLA’s leading rebounder in 2012-13, Anderson was the Pac-12’s only player to rank in the top 10 in both rebounds (sixth, 8.6 rpg) and assists (sixth, 3.5 apg). He also ranked fifth in the conference in steals per game (1.8).

The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top NCAA Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named to the All-America team but are not eligible to receive Player of the Year honors.

In preseason college basketball publications, Anderson has been rated the country’s No. 11 point guard by Lindy’s Sports and as a preseason second-team All-Pac-12 player by USA Today, Lindy’s Sports and Athlon Sports. He’s listed as the conference’s fourth-best player by The Sporting News.

The Bruins open their regular season against Drexel on Friday, Nov. 8. Game time in Pauley Pavilion is 9 p.m. UCLA will host exhibition games against Cal State San Bernardino on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and versus Cal State San Marcos on Monday, Nov. 4. Both exhibition games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
