Kaskie's game-winner at 105:08 came as a result of great team play and possession by the Bruins. Kaskie, who had just entered the game in the last minute of the first overtime, actually started the play in the back third after taking control of the ball on a turnover. She passed back to Megan Oyster, who sent the ball forward to Sarah Killion. Killion found Sam Mewis, who passed to Darian Jenkins at the top of the box. Jenkins sent the ball to Chelsea Stewart, who was alone on the left side, but as defenders closed in, she passed back to Jenkins at the top of the box. Jenkins slotted the pass to Kaskie, and the freshman sent a left-footed shot from the edge of the box high over Stanford goalkeeper Jane Campbell for the game-winner.
The Bruins struck first in the game on Jenna Richmond's first goal of the year at 61:17. The scoring play started when UCLA goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland nabbed a Stanford free kick from the right sideline and immediately fed Taylor Smith. Smith dribbled down the field and crossed to Richmond. Richmond overran the ball slightly but stayed with it and fired past Campbell to the right corner.
UCLA was less than two minutes away from victory, but Lo'eau LaBonta tied it up and forced overtime with a goal with 1:33 to play. Courtney Verloo lofted a cross to LaBonta, who chested the ball down, got ahead of the Bruin defense and shot past an onrushing Rowland into the far corner.
In the first overtime period, defender Abby Dahlkemper had a huge play to keep Stanford off the board. Not even a minute after just missing wide on a free kick, Dahlkemper on the next Stanford possession made a backline save to stop a shot by Chioma Ubogagu that was headed for the back of the net. Earlier in the game, Dahlkemper had a free kick that was saved by Campbell and richocheted off the crossbar. The ball fell tantalizingly just in front of the line, and Jenkins and Campbell got to the ball simultaneously, but Green was able to smother the ball to prevent Jenkins from poking it in.
UCLA (11-1-1, 3-0-1 in the Pac-12) outshot Stanford (9-2-1, 2-2-0) in the match, 21-13. Rowland had five saves, while Campbell had seven.
The Bruins face another Top 10 team on Sunday, taking on eighth-ranked California in Berkeley at 11am PT. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
