TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Karsta Lowe led all players with 17 kills, sophomore Karly Drolson added 16 digs and junior Zoë Nightingale had six blocks, as the Bruins ended a four-match road trip with a sweep of 22nd-ranked Arizona State on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20, 25-21.

Senior Kelly Reeves produced nine kills and 13 digs, while senior Mariana Aquino had eight kills. Junior Megan Moenoa posted 29 assists and six digs, as the Bruins hit .193 for the match.

Despite six ties, including as late as 23-all, the Bruins (11-7, 2-6 Pac-12) led wire-to-wire in the opening set. Equal at four, the Bruins scored five straight and seven of eight to take a set-best lead of six at 11-5. An ASU service error, back-to-back Nightingale combo blocks with redshirt freshman Haley Lawless and then Moenoa, followed by consecutive Lowe aces put the Bruins ahead 9-4. After a Sun Devil sideout, kills by Lawless and Moenoa made it a six-point advantage for the visitors. With UCLA up 18-15, Arizona State scored three in a row to tie things up at 18.

The score would be tied again at 21, but kills from Aquino and Lowe put the Bruins up by a pair. Arizona State netted the next two, but an Aquino/Lowe combo block gave the Bruins a set point and Lowe’s team-best fifth kill of the opener gave the Bruins a 25-23 victory. Lowe was a part of nine of the UCLA points, adding two aces and two blocks. Aquino recorded four kills, Nightingale had three blocks and Drolson and Reeves each posted five digs. UCLA out-hit Arizona State .146 to .114.

UCLA dropped the first point of set two, but scored the next two on Lowe and Aquino kills to go up 2-1. Despite two more ties, the Bruins never trailed for the rest of the set. Leading 12-11, the Bruins scored four straight on an ASU service error, solo blocks by freshman Claire Felix and Nightingale and a Reeves kill to make it 16-11. Arizona State closed the gap with a 7-3 run to get to within one at 19-18, but the Bruins closed out the set on a 6-2 run to take the second 25-20.

Back-to-back Lowe kills and a solo block by sophomore Maddy Klineman put the Bruins up 22-18. After a sideout, a Klineman kill made it 23-19. Arizona State sided out again, but a Lowe kill and a combo block by Nightingale and Felix closed out a 25-20 victory. Lowe paced the Bruins with five kills, while Aquino and Reeves added three apiece. Drolson recorded seven digs and Nightingale posted three blocks, as the Bruins out-hit the Sun Devils .189 to .143.

UCLA trailed only once in the third set as the visitors finished off the sweep. With the Bruins up 6-4, the Sun Devils went on a 4-1 run to take an 8-7 edge. But a 6-1 run put UCLA ahead 13-9. A Lowe kill and a Reeves solo block made it 9-8 Bruins, and after a sideout, a combo block by Aquino and Moenoa, a Reeves kill and consecutive Lowe kills made it a four-point difference.

With the score 14-12, the Bruins netted five of the next six on two Lowe kills, Aquino and Nightingale kills and an ASU attack error to go up by a set-best six at 19-13. Arizona State made a game of it, going on a 7-2 run to get to within one at 21-20, but the Bruins scored four of the last five to take the third 25-21. A Reeves kill and a Moenoa ace made it 23-20, and after a sideout, kills by Reeves and Lowe wrapped up a 25-21 victory. Lowe had seven kills in the third, Reeves added five with six digs and Nightingale recorded three kills. The Bruins out-hit the Sun Devils .244 to .057.

The Bruins are home next week for Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA will host Washington on Friday at 8 p.m. and Washington State on Saturday at 7 p.m. The UCLA-Washington matchup will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
